Hotel Cheval Blanc

Standing imperiously among the pine trees of the exclusive Jardin Alpin overlooking the village is the unmistakable Cheval Blanc, fronted by its huge mirrored sculpture of a horse.

Conceived as a luxurious mountain retreat by owner Bernard Arnault, boss of Louis Vuitton, it is this and much, much more. No expense has been spared in a relentless search for excellence in all things, from the stunningly-decorated rooms – featuring chromotherapy mood lighting – to the fabulous suites, each individually decorated and featuring so many seemingly effortless little touches that combine exquisitely.

If really serious luxury is required, then the hotel’s “Appartment” might suit. 650m2 of sumptuous elegance laid out over the top two floors of the hotel, this is one of the most extraordinary places imaginable. From the huge open plan reception room, the dining room with personal chef and butler, to the private lift and serviced ski-room, to the three guest suites, and the jaw-dropping master suite on the upper floor, this is the result of ages of the most careful planning, consideration and a single-minded pursuit of perfection.

Away from accommodation, the ‘1947’ restaurant has recently been awarded its second Michelin star and chef Yannick Alléno is simply a magician with the finest ingredients. The signature “White Bar” is a glorious mix of wood, velvet, fur and leather and features a huge open fire. For smokers, there is an authentic Mongolian yurt outside(!!) for a crafty puff sheltered from the elements. Plus of course a lovely terrace for sunny days.

For relaxation, as one would expect by now, nothing has been left to chance and the Guerlain Spa features everything anyone could possibly conceive of. The fact it has been voted “Best Hotel Spa in Europe” says it all.

Sensational.
