Hotel Le Chabichou
Distinctive with its attractive all-white façade, the family-run Chabichou enjoys an excellent location in Courchevel 1850, a minute’s walk from the centre of resort, while offering true ski-in/ski-out convenience.Distinguished, too, as it is home to Michel Rochedy’s 2* Michelin restaurant – an absolute Mecca for gastronomes. If you’re not going the whole hog but fancy a special treat, the affordable tasting menu is not to be missed!
The hotel is a great mix of traditional and ultra-modern and features possibly the nicest bar in Courchevel if you prefer cosiness, beams, exposed stone and open fires to chrome ‘n’ cocktails with sparklers! The rooms are tastefully decorated and are very light with pine and beech everywhere and come with free wi-fi thoughout, flat screen TV/DVDs and very smart en-suite facilities. There are also family rooms, as well as some particularly attractive split-level suites in the eaves of the hotel and two beautiful “chalets”. All have private balconies with nice views over the resort and surrounding mountains.
Elsewhere, in addition to Michel’s famous gastronomic restaurant, there is a very attractive dining room serving traditional and modern French cuisine, various salons as well as the afore-mentioned downstairs bar (which also hosts a robust afternoon tea, as well as a welcome glass of je ne sais quoi after a long day!) and a fabulous “Wellness” centre with pool, gym, saunas and Hammam steam rooms and a frankly bewildering array of treatments, massages and so on.
To sum up, the Chabichou is everything a family affair should be. Welcoming, with lots of personal touches and an evident pride in the way the whole place is put together and run. As far as the Holy Grail combination of A1 location, value, style, epic cuisine and convivial atmosphere goes it comes very, very close.
